Valentine’s, galentine’s, palentine’s – there are a lot of opportunities to show love, and you would be amazed by the power it brings. But are you setting aside time to show yourself some love, too? Create little moments throughout the day to pause and enjoy your own company.
Self-care means taking the time to do things that help you live well and improve your physical and mental health. When it comes to your mental health, self-care can help you manage stress, lower your risk of illness, and increase your energy. Even small acts of self-care in your daily life can have a big impact.
Sometimes we neglect how important it is to prioritize ourselves before we care for others. So, this Valentine’s Day (and every day), we are all for giving back to ourselves. Trust us; you deserve it.
Our self-care tips for Valentine’s Day
1. Spa day
You can never go wrong with a spa day. Book yourself a facial and pedicure, or even do it at home! It doesn’t have to be over the top or stressful to pamper yourself; it can be something as easy as drawing a bath and applying a face mask. (Perhaps with extra bubbles and your favorite glass of wine or sparkling water.) Whatever your spa day consists of, enjoy every second of it.
2. Make your favorite meal
Food. Food is love. Food is great. Food makes us happy. Light a candle, put on your favorite Spotify playlist, refill your wine or sparkling water, and get cooking. Or if you want to save prepping and clean-up time, start a crockpot meal at the start of your day – your whole home will smell ammmmazzzing!
If you prefer takeout, that’s great too. Cook/prep/order your favorite meal, whatever will make you feel the most indulging self-love.
3. Treat yourself
You don’t need a partner or friend to get you flowers. Get yourself flowers because YOU CAN. Just having flowers at home can boost your mood. While you’re at it, get those shoes you've been eyeing, because why not?
4. Write yourself a love note
Get yourself a journal and spend a moment reflecting on why you love yourself. Journal about the past year, the beginning of 2022, and ways to take better care of yourself. Make a list of things you have that you are proud of, progress on goals, and anything that makes you realize how wonderful you are.
5. Do something YOU enjoy
Everyone has different hobbies and skills. Whether you enjoy practicing yoga or painting, take the time to do so.
Self-care is unique for each individual; your approach may differ from the next person’s. However, focusing on moments to enjoy your own company will not only make for a better Valentine’s Day, but it will also help you in your everyday life.
